Top 3 Hidden Gems in the Miami Restaurant Scene

Miami is well-known for its cultural diversity, most notably the Latin American influence on the local food and language. There’s no shortage of croquetas or Cuban coffee, wherever you go around the city. Whenever you talk about food in Miami, the legendary ‘La Careta’ cafeteria has to be mentioned as well as ‘Versailles cafeteria’, but we’ll save that for another time.

Today I’m going to be sharing with you the top 3 hidden gems that are worth being discovered. Some of these locales are right in the heart of Miami Beach, while others are far out in the suburbs but all of them will deliver the same result; An unforgettable experience.

Al Basha Grill

1533 Washington Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139

Starting off the list, we find ourselves in the heart of South Beach. Al Basha Grill is the one sanctuary, among all the other tourist traps chasing after tourist dollars. Here they serve middle-eastern favorites such as: falafel, shawarma, & kabobs at an affordable price. The staff is also very endearing, you can hear their slight accents that certify the authenticity of the food. Personally, the falafel wrap is a must!

Sweet Dogs

4749 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33134

For our next stop we’re deep in the heart of Little Havana, the historic Cuban quarters of Miami. You might not think of hot dogs as being traditionally a cuban dish, and you’d be right. There's nothing traditional about these franks. Sweet Dogs is a neighborhood hot dog joint which offers unique, mouth-watering combinations such as ‘The Marlin’ which is topped with a fried egg, sweet plantains & fries; or ‘The Dolphins’ which is topped with grilled ham, bacon & pineapple; or my personal favorite ‘The Heat’ which is topped with Chilli, Guacamole & corn chips.

Finka Table & Tap

14690 SW 26th St, Miami, FL 33175

Lastly, about a half an hour drive away from the city, deep in the west Kendall neighborhood we find Finka. For those not in the know, Finka is a hot, new bistro-bar drawing in waves of young clientele. They’re known for their quirky fusion menu and bartenders well-versed in the art of mixology. Some of their fusion dishes include: Cuban fried rice, Brisket wonton ravioli & my personal favorite the vaca frita pizza.
